Second Chance Dog Rescue is a San Diego–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to saving homeless dogs by rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing them into loving families. Founded in 2008, the organization focuses on providing essential medical care — including spay/neuter services — and placing each dog in a private foster home until it is adopted.
Unlike a traditional shelter, SCDR does not maintain a kennel facility; instead, all animals are cared for in foster environments that help them adjust and thrive before they find their permanent homes. The rescue hosts weekly adoption events where prospective adopters can meet available dogs and begin the adoption process.
Volunteers play a vital role in the organization, assisting with fostering, transport, events, and administrative support to help more dogs find families. Second Chance Dog Rescue’s mission emphasizes compassion, active community involvement, and a commitment to improving the lives of dogs in need.
Through their efforts, Second Chance Dog Rescue saves hundreds of dogs each year, providing them with the care, attention, and opportunities they deserve.
