Humane Society of Northeast Iowa

Founded in 1995, the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa (HSNEI) helps abandoned animals and their owners across 5 counties. They prioritize finding forever homes for dogs and cats, avoiding euthanasia due to space or time constraints.

HSNEI’s mission is to work with partners and individuals to provide accessible, affordable solutions for people and animals in the communities we serve. They envision a world where people and animals thrive together.

They rely solely on donations and fundraising for operations and are not affiliated with any national groups or government funding.

HSNEI improves quality of life through quality:

The organization cares for dogs and cats in need, both in their custody and within the community. They prioritize providing optimal animal care, considering the animals’ mental, physical, and emotional well-being, as well as their current circumstances and the resources available.

They diligently match families with pets that align with their homes, personalities, and lifestyles. They strive to find the most suitable matches for their animals and collaborate with other entities such as sanctuaries, behaviorists, and other animal welfare organizations to increase the chances of finding homes for as many animals as possible. Additionally, they place animals in foster homes when feasible, particularly focusing on those who struggle in a shelter environment.

They offer various services to pet families and community members, continually adapting to meet the evolving needs of the neighborhoods they serve. These services encompass pet adoptions, accepting animal surrenders, providing humane education, organizing spay/neuter and microchip clinics, offering nail trim services, and extending support to pet owners as needed.
