CAPACares

CAPACares, founded in 1975, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preventing and treating all forms of child abuse and neglect.

The organization provides comprehensive services, including mental health counseling for children and non-offending caregivers who have experienced abuse or trauma, home visiting programs, parenting education classes, and school-based prevention programs. CAPACares offers community and school-based outreach, social-emotional learning, and professional training for adults who are mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect.

Their school-based education programs for elementary and middle school children use class discussions, role-playing, videos, and handouts to teach kids about personal safety, communication skills, and getting along with others. CAPACares’ prevention programs include Healthy Families Jackson County, which uses evidence-based models to provide extensive support and resources to families from birth through age three.

Through their multi-faceted approach that combines prevention, treatment, education, and support services, CAPACares works to create safer communities and stronger families while addressing the complex needs of those impacted by child abuse and neglect.
