CHOP Out Hunger

CHOP Out Hunger is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to tackling food insecurity across Pennsylvania, operating under the belief that no child should go hungry. The organization focuses on closing the meal gap and ending childhood hunger by addressing the critical fact that 1 in 8 children is at risk for hunger each day in the United States.

CHOP Out Hunger uses research to determine the hunger gap in its service areas and then implements targeted programs. Their core programs include:

  • A Backpack Program delivering nutritious meals and easy-to-prepare food so students have enough to eat over the weekend.
  • In-School Pantries, offering discreet, self-serve access to snacks and take-home food to high school students — helping reduce stigma and encouraging self-advocacy.
  • Pop-Up Pantries: mobile food distributions (staples, produce, dairy, meats) that bring groceries directly into underserved communities and food-desert areas.
  • Summer Meal Programs, which cover the gaps when school meals aren’t available, ensuring continuous access to nourishment year-round.

Through these comprehensive programs, the organization offers consistent, dependable access to nutritious meals for children and families in need, making sure that thousands of kids have the fuel they require to learn, grow, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

CHOP Out Hunger continues to work toward their vision of food access for all and feeding hope to Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable children.
