Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities

Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities (ECAD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve greater independence and mobility through specially trained assistance dogs. Their mission is clear: “to enable people with disabilities to gain greater independence and mobility through the use of service dogs.”

ECAD’s comprehensive training program—known as the “ECADemy”—trains dogs to retrieve items, open doors, manage switches, and assist with mobility tasks tailored to each client’s specific needs. Serving veterans, children with autism, individuals with mobility challenges, and others with disabilities, they match highly skilled dogs with recipients to transform daily life.

The organization relies on volunteers who raise puppies, support training, and participate in community events—an essential part of the canine development process from whelp to placement. Clients paired with ECAD assistance dogs report improved quality of life, increased independence, and significant emotional support thanks to their canine partners.

As ECAD continues to expand its outreach, training facilities, and placement network, the organization remains committed to its vision: a world where people with disabilities are supported by trusted canine companions and live with dignity, purpose, and greater freedom of movement.
