Empower Grieving Children, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, connecting, and empowering children, teens, and young adults up to age 24 who have experienced the death of a parent. Its mission centers on building community and showing young people that loss is survivable through ongoing support and shared experience.
Through mentoring and shared activities, Empower helps youth build resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging after loss. Programs are offered at no cost to families and include a unique one-on-one Mentor Program, in which young people are paired with adult mentors who have also lost a parent and can provide empathy, guidance, and friendship. Empower also hosts year-round, community-based events that bring grieving youth together to connect with others who understand their experiences and help reduce feelings of isolation.
Founded in 2013, the organization has grown from grassroots beginnings into a community that serves hundreds of bereaved young people across the U.S. and beyond, offering tangible proof that no child should navigate grief alone. All of its programming emphasizes friendship, community, and the power of shared experience to help young people heal.
