Services for Independent Living (SIL) is a nonprofit Center for Independent Living that works to empower people with disabilities, seniors, and veterans to live independently and fully participate in their communities. Founded on the Independent Living Philosophy, SIL is consumer-controlled, meaning at least 51 percent of its staff and board members are individuals with disabilities, and it serves people of all ages and disability types without operating residential facilities.
The organization offers a range of services to enhance quality of life, including advocacy, peer support, information and referral, independent living skills training, and transition assistance. SIL provides access services, such as accessibility equipment demonstrations, durable medical equipment loans, and technical guidance, helping individuals gain the tools they need for daily living.
By addressing practical needs and systemic barriers, Services for Independent Living works toward a barrier-free community where all individuals can pursue economic self-sufficiency and achieve their personal goals.
